Internet Career
Resources
|
Just as the
Internet is changing the way we work, communicate and
even shop, it is now changing the way we look for
employment. The Web is chock full of resources for job
hunters and career planners, as well as new ways to
track down and apply for jobs.
Not just for geeks
Although the Web is a major marketplace for computer
professionals, you don’t have to be a geek to take
advantage of the tremendous resources available
online. While actual job postings are heavy on the
technology side, there are many jobs for other
professionals, recent grads and even entry-level
workers. Many employers list their openings on their
sites, and most newspaper classified ads are now
accessible online. Job Search sites allow keyword
searches and posting of resumes into databases which
can match applicants to their perfect job!
More than job listings
Beyond job postings, the
Internet offers a wealth of career resources for job
seekers and career professionals alike. Career
guidance, resume help, occupational information,
interview preparation, labor market information and
more are just a mouse-click away. Job seekers can now
research careers and employers, prepare resumes and
apply for jobs without leaving home.
None of this takes the place of
a traditional job search; rather, it supplements and
expands the channels available. The modern worker can
ill-afford to ignore these new resources, as the
Information Highway is fast becoming the expressway to
employment .
We have included some Web
resources to get you started. Even this list just
scratches the surface – keep clicking and you will
find even more! Happy surfing!
